San José del Cabo City Guide
San José del Cabo is known for its authentic Mexican atmosphere, historic architecture and charming streets surrounding the traditional plaza. Just 20 miles from Cabo San Lucas, this is a city of tree-lined streets, pastel-hued colonial buildings and a beautiful mission church. San Josés pace is more laidback than that of its busy sister city. Downtown San José is home to romantic courtyard restaurants housed in historic buildings. Explore the many lovely boutiques featuring fine art, clothing, pottery, handmade folk art and jewelry. From November through June, the Thursday evening Art Walk is an excellent way to experience the art offerings of San José del Cabo. Galleries keep their doors open late into the evening, music fills the streets and restaurants offer specials.
Accommodations in San José del Cabo range from stunning resorts to beachfront villas overlooking the Sea of Cortez. Luxury resorts line the sands along the Hotel Zone. While this area is not recommended for swimming due to strong riptides, it’s great for sunbathing and strolling. A few spots are also excellent for surfing. At the end of the Hotel Zone, you’ll find the Estero San José a beautiful natural palm-lined estuary rich in bird life.
